According to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Py story is this: “William and Carole Py had raised their children and were planning for retirement. They never expected they would have to do it all over again.

William and Carole Py were ecstatic when they became grandparents. They loved being able to visit with their three grandchildren, give them lots of hugs and kisses, spoil them rotten, and then send them home to their parents. They were able to have all the fun, without the worry of the responsibility.

In July of 1997, thirty-three year-old Jose Rosario II, took a nap and never woke up.

Jose passed away from a brain aneurysm, leaving behind a young widow and three very little children. But the worst was yet to come.

While pregnant with Joey, Sandra was diagnosed with breast cancer. After giving birth, Sandra was too weak from her chemo treatments to continue working. She packed up her children and moved in with her parents, William and Carole Py.

Several months after moving in with her folks, Sandra received the horrifying news that her cancer had returned. This time it had attacked her spinal cord and traveled to her brain. Three weeks later on November 30, 1998 and the age of twenty-eight, Sandra lost her battle with cancer, leaving behind her three beautiful children.

William and Carole have embraced Will, Samantha and Joey with open arms and are doing their best to give them a great life. Unfortunately, they never planned for the financial burdens of raising a second family and their home is now taking the brunt of that. After putting their own four daughters through college they barely had enough money to retire, and now, they wonder if that’s even a possibility!

More of a concern to them now is the fact that their house is full of asbestos and lead. Knowing that asbestos can cause cancer and lead poisoning can have dramatic neurological effects in children terrifies Grandma and Granpop Py. In this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” we can give the Py’s a safe new home to raise these children in, erasing their worries and allowing them time to just enjoy their grandchildren, as grandparents should.”
